The star has donated the entirety of his £25,000 honor cash to the MVT, which operates to preserve the Britain's grassroots music venues.

He was given the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the past year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous small stages across the UK.

The money helped locations that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges arising from water damage, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations received monetary aid in upgrading facilities and technical equipment that helped musicians and audiences.

"The idea that money from performances in major spaces helps the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is among several artists to donate his award funds to worthy causes.

In Pulp won the prize in the mid-90s for their record Different Class, frontman Cocker declared that the group would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

That year, musician she shared her prize between a few charities, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they needed new equipment," the artist explained to outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective gave their prize money to the community center that supported their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year they contributed their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success affected another person's life."

In the past week, the trust shared it had protected several grassroots venues in south-east England, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in the city and the other in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
